The Greenfinch is a small-bodied but robust bird about the size of a House sparrow (around 15 cm). It has a rather short and forked tail. The males are yellow-greenish, with more intense colours during springtime, and grey cheeks. Its wings present intense yellow stripes at the sites of the otherwise grey wings. The female has a grey-brown colour with light stripes. It also has the yellow stripe at the side of the wings, but less intense than in the males. The Greenfinch has a stout and strong beak with which it cracks open seeds.
Where and when to spot it
