The serin is a small bird (ca. 15 cm) and closely related to canaries. Its back, the top of its head and the sides of the belly have distinct lines. In the males, the chest and the area around the cheeks are intense yellow, while in the female these areas are whitish-yellow with light lined patterns
Where and when to spot it
In our area it can be observed throughout the year, but during spring it is most easily observed because of its loud song. It can be found in parks, on fields, in gardens and cemeteries with large trees such as cypresses and pines. Sometimes it also sits on electricity wires.
Interesting facts
The serin has a very characteristic, loud and quick song which is reminiscent of the clinking of keys.
