The hooded crow has a grey body with a black head and black wings. It is a large bird and can reach a size of 45-50 cm. It has a large and strong beak. It is an omnivore and can feed on eggs, nuts and insects, but also on garbage and carcasses. Its voice is a characteristic "kraa" - and it is often mistaken for a raven.
Where and when to spot it
It often roosts in the night in groups in parks and harbours of the cities, whereas during daytime it can migrate for long distances to search for food. It can be observed all year round.
Interesting facts
Look for it during sunset, when large groups of hooded crows and jackdaws can be seen flying overhead - they are migrating back to the city for the night.
